What The Power Year Is All About

The power year is something that I wanted to start since 2015, but at the time it was set to be called Degenerate Health. The simple explanation for the name was that since high school I have been a bit of a degenerate, focused on partying and hanging out with friends over everything else. The idea of Degenerate Health was to create a website and blog with content about getting healthier, while still having degenerate tendencies and having degenerate content and advice as well. I eventually decided against the name.


Now, I am not like a raging alcoholic or anything, but as we know time flies and now I am a year and a half away from turning 30. I have been dabbling with smoking cigarettes on and off, as well as weed (more on than off) and a whole lot of drinking for the past 13 years. I have a lot of other bad habits as well that I want to change which I will get into another day. The problem is I enjoyed partaking in all of these habits and still do, but something in me just knows that I can live a much higher quality life if I cut out these bad habits and replace them with good habits. Lately, I have been getting very bored with what feels like doing the same thing all the time. Hanging out with friends and family, drinking and talking about the same things every time. It literally is me not them. I just don't feel like I have anything new or interesting to say because I feel like I am not doing anything.


After deciding against Degenerate Health mainly because I wanted to go all in on the healthy aspects without any of the degenerate mixed in, I came up with the idea of The Power Year. The whole idea of The Power Year was to focus on something new to better myself each month. The idea being that after the month wass over whatever I was working on that month say quitting smoking, would just continue on in the background without needing much focus. Then after a year I would accomplish 12 different goals and be a better person. Well that is basically what this will be, but slightly different.


It is going to be slightly different though. I need to fast track the process a bit, because I am set to start volunteer firefighting in my town later this month on January 27th. So as of New Year's Day I stopped smoking both cigarettes and weed. I am currently not drinking, doing a "Dry January" and have started working out again all to make sure that I will be able to handle the physical and mental aspect of the job.


I am definitely not a health expert and everything you see on The Power Year are things that I have tried or am currently trying in order to live a better life. If you are still reading this I apologize if I am all over the place, but I am really excited about finally getting serious about The Power Year and have a lot planned for this year.
